Townbrook Tales began with love, distance, and a little boy’s deep fascination with stones. British Grandma Lizzie started writing these stories when she found herself living in a different country from her young grandson, at a time when his family was often travelling and on the road. Phone calls and postcards didn’t feel quite enough, so she created something more lasting: original stories he could listen to whenever he missed her. Because he was only four or five years old and couldn’t yet read, Lizzie recorded the stories in her own voice, turning them into personal audio adventures that felt like she was right there with him.
The stories grew from her grandson’s interests - especially his absolute love of stones, masonry, and how things are built. Lizzie noticed there were very few children’s stories that celebrated stones and stonework, so she filled that gap with gentle tales of gnomes, animal creatures, and the quiet magic of the natural world. Some stories were even written at his request, shaped by his questions and ideas. Today, these recorded stories offer the same comfort and spark of imagination to other children and parents: a soothing screen-free way to encourage listening skills, curiosity, and calm, whether at bedtime, during travel, or quiet moments at home. For parents, they provide a trusted, warm voice and thoughtful storytelling; for children, they open a rich world of wonder, creativity, and connection -just as they once did for one little boy.
